What To Do When Dishonest

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Leviticus 6:4-9 “Then it shall be, because he hath sinned, and is guilty,
that he shall restore that which he took violently away, or the thing which
he hath deceitfully gotten, or that which was delivered him to keep, or the
lost thing which he found, Or all that about which he hath sworn falsely; he
shall even restore it in the principal, and shall add the fifth part more there-
to, and give it unto him to whom it appertaineth, in the day of his trespass
offering.

Our first step after dishonesty is to restore our fellowship with god. Confess
our sin to him, humbly asking for forgiveness. We cannot hide our sin from
God for he already sees it. When we use our faith to confess, we destroy
the works of the enemy who wants to keep us silent in our sin, trapped in
bondage.

Lastly, we need to give back to the rightful owner, what we took by force
or in secret or from a second person suspecting it might be stolen. Or may-
be we just found something but don’t know who it belongs to that we
should have turned over to the police.

Our dishonesty is a matter of the heart, a lack of faith, or could we say, a
distrust of God’s provision in our lives. Oh how we try to justify it in our
own minds. We may think “they have so much already, they won’t miss
this little thing” or “I don’t think they pay me enough so I will take some
extra liberties of my own at work” or “it’s the government, they won’t
find out if it is all done in cash.” Trust me, even it the government doesn’t
find out, or our bosses or a person we considered to be a friend, God
already knows and he will discipline us according to what we have done.
And that is a painful place to be my friends. The word says “do not repay
anyone evil for evil” for you see, we are held to a higher accountability in
Christ Jesus.

If you have felt a conviction in your spirit about something specific while
you read this, please don’t wait another second. Go to God in prayer and
repent, ask for forgiveness and ask for His wisdom on how he wants you
to repay for the dishonesty, and be freed from that bondage that held you
captive. Thank the Lord!
